Plum rains forecast to bring wet, cooler weather to Taiwan 2018-05-04
(CNA) The first wave of this year's plum rains is forecast to arrive in Taiwan Thursday and is expected to bring temperatures down to as low as 19 degrees Celsius, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said.

Coupled with northeasterly winds, the weather across Taiwan will become cooler and wetter Thursday, with a high chance of rain in northern and eastern Taiwan, while sunny and partly cloudy weather coupled with sporadic showers is expected in central and southern Taiwan, CWB forecaster Liu Yu-chi (Bt) said.

Thundershowers are likely in the afternoon in mountainous areas around the island, according to Liu.

Daytime highs in northern Taiwan could dip to 21-22 degrees, with lows of 19-20 degrees at night, while highs of 25-28 degrees and lows of 22-23 degrees are forecast for the east, Liu said.

The mercury in central and southern Taiwan will remain high at around 30 degrees during the day.

Liu said that temperatures will rebound Friday, with highs of 25 degrees forecast in the north, and that the rain will ease.

On Saturday, the weather will be more stable, with highs of above 30 degrees around Taiwan.

However, another front will approach Tuesday, bringing unstable, wet weather through the week.
